Pointe des Espagnols.

At the northern point of the Pointe des Espagnols, at the tourist observation point, a bunker is visible.

The bunker, a casemate for a 5cm gun, has been built to protect the entrance of the harbour of Brest and the huge U-boat bunker in Brest. From this point you'll see lots of bunkers on the other side of the water. We were lucky and we've seen a nuclear-submarine coming into the harbour. This event caused the presence of lots of military personnel and police men.

Follow the road towards Pointe des Espagnols; 200m before the big parking place is a road to the right, into the small village Penaros. Follow this road and you'll find the first bunker on your left hand. This location is far from complete and only visible with accurate maps of the place of the bunkers,

On the Pointe de Espagnols there are lots of old French fortresses. The Germans also built lots of St. bunkers around the point because of the strategic importance (entrance of the harbour of Brest). Most of the bunkers are hard to find without proper maps. During our trip we did not have the proper maps, so we couldn't find all the bunkers, but next time we'll have the maps with us. The first bunker at the side of the road looks like a regular 680 casemate but it is actually a Vf. casemate; the roof is not in St. strength and there is an additional room. Note the nice firing-instructions on the wall. The first 634 lies next to the road at the crossing with the D355 and a small road into Penaros. The second one is located in the bushes at the opposite side of the Vf. PAK bunker, but this bunker is very hard to find.
